Lorena Emily Folks of Temple, 103 years old, went to be with Jesus on Monday, September 19, 2022. She was born to Arthur (A.F.) and Hulda Krause in the Twin Mountain Community of Copperas Cove on September 14, 1919.

Lorena was active in her church from the very beginning. She was baptized on October 5, 1919, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Copperas Cove. Immanuel is the church by the mountain with the cross made of stone. She actually helped to make the cross of stones. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and later graduated from Copperas Cove High School. Lorena was confirmed in her Christian faith on March 30, 1934. She later married her husband, William “Bill” Folks in the same church on September 23, 1945. They were married for 47 years. Lorena and her husband moved to Temple in 1950 where she became active in the ministry of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Temple. Serving others was a big part of her life. Lorena served as a Kindergarten teacher at the Church’s school and volunteered with the Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Walther League for youth. She was a part of the Altar Guild, Faith Circle of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, served on the finance committee, on the Large Print Bible Team through the Braille Ministry, and was active on the church’s Funeral Meal Committee. In addition, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 133. She worked for several years at Bandy Labs. Lorena changed career fields and joined the practice of James H. Wuensche, DDS as a Dental Assistant from which she retired after many years. Throughout her lifetime, Lorena found great joy and satisfaction in serving others.

Lorena was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Folks; her parents; sisters, Blandina Allen, Frieda Gerhardt, and Hilda Krause; brother, Harold Krause; nephew, David Allen; and nieces, Karen Krause, Jeannette Gerhardt, and Gwendolyn Gerhardt.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Lynn Trammel of Vinton, LA; and son, Gary D. Folks and wife, Sharon of Temple, TX. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Mark Trammel and wife, Kim; John Trammel and wife, Megan; Brandi Ford and husband, Justin; and Brandon Folks and wife, Sarah. Lorena also has eight great grandchildren, Wyatt Trammel, Emily Trammel, Kyle Trammel, Quincy Trammel, Taylann Trammel, Jadeyn Cobb, Adam Folks, and Hannah Folks. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her dearly as well.

The family would like to thank Visiting Angels, and Baylor Scott & White Hospice and Geriatrics for the loving caregivers and excellent care for Lorena.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 pm Friday, September 23, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2109 W. Avenue H in Temple, Texas. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park & Cemetery at 8575 Airport Road, Temple, Texas. A time of visitation will be held from 5-7:30 pm Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple, Texas.
