Harker Heights

Dustin Lee Cochran, 33 of Harker Heights, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at his home. A Celebration of Life was held privately by the family.

Dustin was born January 26, 1987 to Russell Lee and Bernice Eddy Cochran in Temple, Texas. Dustin graduated from Belton High School in 2006. Since the age of 17, Dustin battled Schizophrenia but still strived to live life to the fullest. He owned and rode 3 different motorcycles, enjoyed beach trips, barbeque’s, and sitting around the fire pit. Dustin enjoyed camping and trail riding on ATV’s. He recently mastered an uphill trail that was rutted with years of travel, rain, and a mud slide on a 2WD Four Wheel ATV. He was so proud and he experienced a real sense of accomplishment. Dustin practiced and mastered boarding balls (orbs). His hands were limber and he could really make the orbs chime. Dustin could also put an edge on any knife. He watched his great uncle sharpen knives with a wet rock and practiced and learned. His father once found an old blade and crafted a wooden handle. Dustin put an edge on that knife so sharp it shaved the hair off your arm and split paper without tearing it. He was the family knife sharpening expert. Dustin loved history, trivia facts and movie quotes. He enjoyed music and dancing. He could tell a joke with the best of them (just like his grandmother). He lived these past 15 years and we were able to see life and experiences through his eyes, kind eyes. Dustin met challenges head on, he adapted and overcame. He never gave up. He was and always will be “Our Rebel.”

Dustin is preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his parents, Russell and Bernice; sister, Rachel L. Cortez and husband, Fernando; brother, Roger E. Gleason III; nephew, Jeremiah J. Gleason; niece, McKenzie T. Gleason; and nephew, Wyatt R. Gleason.
