Ben was born on February 22, 1935 to John and Bernadine Southard Julson in Aitkin, Minnesota. He earned a Bachelor of General Studies from Chaminade College of Honolulu and a Master of Arts from Central Michigan University. He married Cynthia Arredondo on July 9, 1993 and they were blessed with 21 years of marriage. Ben was very active in documenting and archiving Temple's railroad history at the Archives of the Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum at the Santa Fe Depot. Ben was an optimist who chose to see the worth in hard work and determination, important in all aspects of life, and encouraged all he came in contact with. Even in the midst of his illness, he would think of others and gave so generously. He was a dedicated member of Bethel Church in Temple and a volunteer for the State of Texas Archives. He will be missed by his family and friends, and all who had the pleasure to get to know him.
