Zed Lancaster, Jr.

Zed Cazy Lancaster Jr. was born December 2, 1925 in the Bottoms community of East Bell County, Texas to Zed Cazy Lancaster Sr. and Effie Grace (Zinn) Lancaster. He attended Troy High School and served in the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater. Upon returning home to Texas following the war, Zed was a successful farmer and rancher for many years in the Temple area. Upon his retirement from farming, he lived in Belton for approximately 15 years before returning to Temple.
Zed lived the last 2 years at the William R Courtney Veterans' home in Temple, where he was loved by all and affectionately known as "Cowboy". He could be regularly spotted zipping around the facility on his scooter (don't get in his way!) and drinking his Dr. Peppers.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent many years deer hunting in the Lampasas and Llano areas, and fishing in the Colorado river at Lemons Camp near Bend.
Zed was preceded in death by his parents, Zed and Effie, sisters Nora, Naomi, Norma, Neva and Nola, and his former wife Jean Lancaster. He is survived by his son Terry Lancaster, Son-in-Law Craig Flores and grandson Colby Rawson, all of San Jose California, many nieces and nephews (including Cecil and Cathryn Delancey of Taylor, TX) , great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his many caregivers, especially Melissa from Visiting Angels and beloved special friend to our family Maggie Menard.
Zed enriched our lives in so many ways - he was a kind and loving son, father, grandfather and uncle and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A time of visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with a funeral service to start at 2:00pm.
