Winfred was born on June 1, 1933 to Robert Robinson Bruton and Gertie Mayes Bruton in Bell County, Texas. He graduated from Belton High School, attended UMHB, and received a Bachelor's Degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX in 1957. Winfred married Eleanor Cowan on June 5, 1962. They were blessed with two children. He took over the family farm and started a business "Bruton Souza Kradle" while raising cattle and farming. In 1967, Winfred was the band director for Rogers High School and in 1968 he was the founder of the Troy High School Band in which he was band director for thirty-nine years until retirement. He was awarded the Golden Apple Award from the Temple Daily Telegram two times. Winfred loved helping people and was inspiring to all as he always saw the best in people.
Preceded in death is his wife of 53 years, Eleanor Amelia Bruton; brothers, William E. Bruton, Leslie Paul Bruton, Robert Bruton; and infant sister, Annie D'Alva.
Survivors include son, Gary Wayne Bruton and wife Wendi; daughter, Dawnia Bruton Herrera; three grandchildren, Brittany Killion, Meredith Killion, and Colby Bruton; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be Friday, January 8th from 8am - 8 pm and visitation with the family will be from 5 - 8 pm at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel.
