W.A. Bill McCann

W. A. Bill McCann, Sr., 99, died December 30, 2014 at his home near Belton, Texas. Bill started preaching at the age of 16, graduated from Bible School, and married Frances L. McCann in 1934. Bill and Frances held revival meetings in Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico until he began his first pastorate in Hereford, Texas. He served in multiple pastorates as a minister with the General Council of the Assemblies of God before his retirement in 1974, including Abilene, Austin, Orange, and Sherman, Texas Oklahoma City, OK Las Cruces, NM, and Fort Smith, AR. Bills last pastorate was the Bethel Church of the Assemblies of God, Temple, Texas.

In 1975 Bill married Ruth Thompson Russell. After retirement he served as a missionary evangelist in the West Indies, Central America, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, India, Hong Kong, Thailand, Canada, Peoples Republic of Red China, and South America. He served in leadership positions in multiple Districts of the Assemblies of God Church as well as on the boards of Evangel University and Southwestern Assemblies of God University. His community service included serving as Chairman of the Bell County Chapter of the American Red Cross and a 37year membership in the Temple Kiwanis Club, with terms as president, secretary, and on the Board of Directors, as well as Chairman of Kiwanis International TexasOklahoma District Spiritual Aims Committee.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Ruth McCann his three children: Helen L. Williams and husband, Jeff, Spring, TX Ronald R. McCann and wife, Tina, Austin, TX Edward McCann and wife, Judy, of Tallahassee, FL a daughterinlaw, Ginger McCann, Marble Falls, TX 9 grandchildren, 25 greatgrandchildren, and 6 greatgreat grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Frances a sister, Leota June Gillespie a son, William A. McCann, Jr. and three grandsons.

Visitation will be held from 6 8 PM on Friday, January 2, 2015 at HarperTalasek Funeral Home, Temple. The funeral will be conducted by Rev. Elwyn Johnston at 1 PM Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Bethel Church of the Assemblies of God, 22621 SE HK Dodgen Loop, in Temple, TX, with Rev. R.J. Bob Miller, Killeen, TX and Rev. Charles Green, Lewisville, TX. Interment will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park, Temple, TX.
