Graveside services for William Hugh Carter, 88, of Temple, will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 2:30 PM at North Belton Cemetery.
Mr. Carter passed from this life on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at home while surrounded by his loving family.
Hugh was born on January 29, 1929 to Russell and Beulah Carter in the small central Texas community of Brookhaven. He spent the majority of his life in and around the Temple and the central Texas area. He was a long time member of Temple Brethren Church. Hugh worked many years for Sandia Laboratories. Mr. Carter was a pioneer in technology and the computer industry. He was a computer technician by trade, and he was involved professionally with computers from the very beginning of their conception. Even in his spare time he was building and tinkering with computers. Hugh was always reading, even if it was articles on technology, science or mathematics. Mr. Carter always loved to learn. Hugh was a strong and faithful man that was always willing to serve others when he was able. No matter where Mr. Carter lived he was always a part of a church of which he served in many different roles and ways. Above all, he was a family man that provided for his family. His family and the love they shared together was his greatest treasure in life. Hugh will be greatly missed by all those knew and loved him.
Hugh is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Ruth Nell Carter and brother, Clarence W. Carter.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his daughter, Shirley Baggerly and husband Donnie; son, Mark Carter; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
There will be a time of visitation and gathering at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 12 to 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Hugh's name to the American Heart Association.
