Walter Spoonts

January 20, 1918 — April 10, 2012

Walter Wray Sonny Spoonts, 94, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at a local nursing home. A service in celebration of his life will be 1:00pm, Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Heights Baptist Church, Temple, Texas with Rev. Billy Koinm and Dr. Tom Henderson officiating. A private family burial will be at Bellwood Memorial Park, Temple, TX. A visitation will be Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00pm, at HarperTalasek Funeral Home, Temple, Texas.

Sonny was born January 20, 1918 in Moffat, Texas, the son of the late Robert Bob Spoonts and Cratie Rivers Spoonts. On June 16, 1946, he married Annie Mae Taylor in Temple, Texas. In 1941, he joined the Army and served his country for 4 years. He retired in 1978, after 33 years of service with Fort Hood as a post engineer. Sonny is a member of Heights Baptist Church, Temple, Texas.

Sonny was preceded in death by his wife Annie Mae Spoonts, his parents, 3 sisters, and 4 brothers.

Sonny is survived by his children: Lana Dodgen and husband Randy of Heath, Texas Wayne Spoonts and wife Cindy of Corsicana, Texas grandchildren Stacy Rickey and husband David of Plano, Sarah Dugle and husband Denver of Nemo, Keith Dodgen of Garland, Taylor Dodgen and wife Kristin of Forney, great grandchildren Natalyn Dugle, Gianna Dugle, Phoenix Rickey, sisterinlaw, Olean Vaughn, a number of nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends.

Memorials may be made to Heights Baptist Church, 1220 South 49th Street, Temple, Texas 76504.
