Walter Wally J. Boyer, 64, of Coppell, Texas, passed away of a heartattack, Thursday, 16 June 2011 while in South Dakota. He was born on September 15, 1946 and lived a full life and was a very accomplished business professional who found his greatest satisfaction in life by serving others. His parents, Walter and Mary Ann Boyer, taught him honesty and integrity and helped him develop a strong work ethic. He was married to LaBetha Boyer for 18 years they had one daughter, Bryne and one granddaughter Brielle. After graduating from the University of Texas, where he played drums for the Long Horn Band, he started his career with the Texas Department of Banking as a bank examiner. In the 1970s he served in the US Army and the Reserves.
Over several decades, he has served on Boards and Committees with government and commercial entities including The Federal Reserve Board in Washington, DC, banks, businesses, a hospital, a police department and The Boys Clubs of America, Junior Achievement of America and various civic organizations. He also taught business school graduates at Southern Methodist University and students at various colleges and universities. In the 1980s he was an elected and appointed delegate to The White House Conferences on Small Business in Washington. In the 1990s he transformed an Asian bank as President from 1 location to 7 locations incorporating over 15 languages. He received a threeyear appointment to The Federal Reserve Board Consumer Advisory Council, Washington, D. C. under Chairman Alan Greenspan.
Wally enjoyed a great love of music often times playing for crowds at dances, Oktoberfests, or other festivals. He played the accordion for hours on end, one time mentioning that his elbows hurt because he played so long He seemed to have an endless supply of musical numbers he could perform on a professional level. He also had a firm belief in his Catholic faith, which sustained him through many challenges.
Wally is survived by many friends, who will miss him dearly most importantly, by his beloved daughter, Bryne, and granddaughter, Brielle, as well as his brother Donald and his mother Mary Ann. He was predeceased by his father, Walter Boyer in 1991.
Rosary will be on Thursday, June 23rd at HarperTalasek Funeral Home from 57pm located at 500 West Barton, Temple, Texas 76501. Funeral will be on Friday, June 24th at 10:00am at St. Marys Catholic Church 1018 South 7th St, Temple, Texas 76504.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Wally and a Latin Mass at Mater Dei Catholic Church on Saturday, June 25th at 2:00pm.located at 2030 E. Hwy 356 Irving, Texas.
