Mrs. Virginia G. Davis passed peacefully early Thursday morning June 12th in her Temple home.
She is survived by son Thomas F. Davis of Austin, and grandson SgtFirst Glass Owen T. Davis and wife Kristin of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.
Also left to fondly remember her are her niece and many nephews and grand nephews and grand nieces, as well as many local friends, including Mary Alice Andes and Rose Largent.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sister, and by her husband Lt. Col Franklin Lee Davis, Jr., her son Franklin Lee Davis III and her daughter Deborah Dean Davis.
She was born Virginia Uldine Dean Gaither January 12, 1918 to parents William Thomas Gaither and Mary Howard Gaither of Pendleton, Texas, where she spent her early years with brothers Paul and Tom Gaither and her beloved sister Helen Gaither Berry.
She married Franklin Lee Davis, Jr. April 9, 1942. Following the war and his receiving his PhD from the University of Texas, she and the family traveled wherever the Air Force needed Dad, and at each duty station she made a home for us: beautiful Ohio, the boonies of New York state, Maryland, Virginia, San Antonio, and Wichita Falls and then finally back to Temple for retirement. Whether we were dealt a farm house or base housing, she made it home, because that was where her heart was: with her family.
She now takes that country road to Pendleton, where many of her family and old friends have been awaiting her these many years.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation Friday evening, June 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 at HarperTalasek Funeral Home 500 W. Barton in Temple.
Services will be held Saturday June 21st at 10:00 AM at HarperTalasek, officiated by Senior Minister Dr. Don Lynn of Temples First Christian Church.
Honorary pall bearers will be Gary Lynn Berry and Wayne Berry, with casket bearers Owen Davis, John Tucker Wyche, David Berry, Scott Berry, Joel Berry, and Jason Berry.
Internment follows at Pendleton Cemetery.
The family gratefully thanks very special caregivers Rosa and Rocky Allums, Edna Posey, and Mary Taylor as well as the nice folks at Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and support they gave our mother that made her last months so comfortable and peaceful.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to First Christian Church of Temple.
