Viola Reneau, 95, a longtime resident of the Temple area, was called to her heavenly home on Friday, November 5, 2010, after a brief, courageous battle with cancer.
Born September 18, 1915 in Ocker, Texas to William Petrek and Margaret Raabe, Viola was the eldest of five children. She married husband Frank Reneau on June 16, 1940, in Ft. Worth. The couple relocated to Temple in 1977.
Viola had a passion for gardening, and many a flower garden flourished under her care. Her formidable talent in the kitchen, especially her Cajunstyle cooking and baked goodies, impressed and delighted family and friends. Gods creatures had a special place in heart, and her home was never without a kitty or two. Those fortunate enough to know her will miss her quick wit, independent spirit and loving presence.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Shirley Padgett and Eileen Hoffman, and brother William Sam Petrek. Survivors include her brother and sisterinlaw, Robert Joe and Dorothy Petrek three nieces, Peri Edwards of Temple, Melissa PetrekMyer of Austin and Michelle Perkus of Dallas a nephew, Wesley Padgett of Houston Margaret Petrek, sisterinlaw and other family members, friends and caregivers.
Viola was a resident of Weston Inn Health Center of Temple, Texas for the last six years of her life. Her family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff for their wonderful care. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Bellwood Memorial Park.
