Services for Thomas L. Tommy Martin, 66, of Academy, will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2014, at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple with Chaplain Rodney Kruse and Allen Crosby officiating.
Mr. Martin died Thursday, January 30, at his home.
He was born August 4, 1947, in Marlin, Texas to Rueben Oran Martin and Frances Lucille Johnson Moore. He served in the United States Army from 1967 1972, attaining the rank of E5. He married Dana Jean Barton in Temple on June 16, 1989. He was a mechanic for Oliver Brothers Transmission for over 30 years. He was a member of Freewill Baptist Church since 1959. Mr. Martin was very loving and caring and had a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, cars, cooking, and his grandchildren and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Dana, of Academy two daughters, Tammy Sleinke of China Springs and Sheila Hykel of Hewitt four sons, Thomas Lee Martin Jr. of Valley Mills, Daniel Oran Busch of Huntsville, Heath Martin of Temple, and Ryan Martin of Heidenheimer two brothers, Jerry Martin of Waco and Ronnie Martin of China Springs a sister, Darlene Smith of Waco an aunt, Billie Bankhead of Fort Worth 17 grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a very large extended family.
The family requests that donations in Tommys name be made to Scott White Hospice, 2401 S. 31st Street, Temple 76508.
Visitation will be 2 4 p.m. Sunday, February 2, at the funeral home.
