Thomas Hennes

June 15, 1946 — February 11, 2019

Graveside funeral services for Thomas Anthony "Tony" Hennes, 72 of Temple, will be held at 2 PM at Bellwood Memorial Park, 8575 Airport Rd, on Thursday, February 21, 2019. Tony passed from this life on February 11 at his home.

Tony Hennes was born in Temple to Al and Mary Helen Hennes on June 15, 1947. He was raised in Temple and lived here the majority of his life, a true Central Texan. He was a Christian man and in his younger days attended First Christian Church in Temple. Mr. Hennes was an anchorman, weatherman, and news director for 30 years for KCEN TV. He spent many years bringing our community the news. He always gave us an accurate picture of what was happening in the world around us. Tony got his start in television in Dallas where he eventually had his own fishing program. After retirement from the media industry, he went to work for the city of Temple and eventually became the Assistant City Manager. During his tenure with the city he was city spokesman and in charge of special projects. Tony was a champion for all things Downtown Temple. He led the way in downtown development and was especially instrumental in the revitalization of the area around the Train Depot and Railroad Museum. Outside of work it should come as no surprise that he had a passion for fishing. He fished with local legendary fisherman, Floyd Mabry and even filmed a few fishing shows with the Bomber Bait Company. There was no happier place for Tony to be than on the water with his fishing buddies. He was also a well-respected collector of fine antique lures and other fishing tackle. Mr. Hennes will always be remembered for his since of humor. One of his favorite tag lines for himself was "Legendary Fisherman- The Fish Fear Me." His business card read "Bureaucratic Commando". It was these types of anecdotes that made Tony, Tony. He was a kind, gentle and jovial soul that will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Allena Ann Hennes.

Those left to honor and cherish Tony's memory are his close friends and colleagues whom he considered family and several distant relatives.

A huge word of thanks goes out to all of those who have left condolences and neat stories on social media and other places. They bring much comfort, joy and laughter.
