Theodour Ted Albert Summers, 86 of South Carolina and formerly of Killeen, passed away January 5, 2010 in a Georgia hospital. Funeral service will be 1:00pm Wednesday at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple with Rev. Ernest Thompson officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Temple Garden of Memories.
Ted Summers was born June 29, 1923 to Ora and Mary Smith Summers in Austin, Texas. On April 12, 1946 he married Esther Eyer in Carrollton, Illinois. After 57 years of marriage, she passed away in 2003. He served our Nation in the United States Army. He had continual service during WWII, service in Korea and Vietnam, and had tours in Germany. He spent 6 months in England before DDay, and was a part of the Invasion of France, Campaigns of Ardennes Forest, and Normandy Beach. Mr. Summers was awarded a purple heart in WWII, and 5 Bronze stars, including one in Vietnam in 1971. After 26 years of service, he retired from the United States Army as Sergeant 1st Class. He also served in Civil Service for 10 years in Fort Hood as a Logistics Supervisor. Ted Summers was a member of the V.F.W., the D.A.V., and the Gilmore Senior center in Killeen. On July 16, 2007, he was married to Alyssa Taylor in Lampasas. He was a member of East Highway Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 57 years, Esther Summers.
Survivors include: wife, Alyssa Summers of South Carolina, son, Earnest Summers of Georgia, daughters Jewel Summers and husband Doug Slotten of Killeen, and Bonnie Taylor and husband Ray of South Carolina, Wanda Summers and her husband Vince Geraci stepson Ryan Tinder and his son, sister, Helen L. King of Austin, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Ted loved music, dancing and playing the accordion for his family and church. A kind and generous man, he was willing to help out those in need without reservation. He was loved dearly by friends and family and will be greatly missed.
