Teddy Owen Martin, 82, passed away on September 16, 2021, at his home in his favorite recliner. Services will be Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at 2:00 pm with Todd Vincent officiating at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple, TX. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, September 20, 2021, from 5-7 pm at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple, TX.
Ted was born at home in Westville, IL on March 21, 1939, and grew up there as well. He married Beverly Baggett in Decatur, IL on July 30, 1967. Ted and Beverly met while working at Osco Drug Store in Decatur, IL. They recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. He and Beverly had 3 children, David, Thomas, and Jill. Ted served in the Navy for 3 years. He retired from Texas Instruments and worked for Don Ringler Chevrolet. He loved spending time with his family, especially his 6 grandchildren. He loved working in the yard and hanging out at Shortridge Automotive, where his grandson worked. Ted never met a stranger and loved to visit with people. He would always have a smile on his face and never had a bad day. He also loved serving at his church in any capacity that he could. He was a current member of Taylors Valley Baptist Church. He enjoyed his daily Bible readings as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Zena Martin, brother Glen Martin Jr, sister Loretta O’Banion and half-brother Robert Martin, all from Illinois.
He is survived by his wife Beverly Martin of Little-River Academy. One brother Leroy and wife Donna Martin of Danville, IL. One son, David Martin and wife Gretchen of Huntley, IL. Another son Thomas Martin and wife Deborah of Holland. And daughter Jill Shortridge and husband Chris of Temple. One granddaughter, Hannah Shortridge and 5 grandsons, Ethan Shortridge, Hayden Martin, Huston Martin, Ben Martin, and Sam Martin.
Pallbearers will be Ethan Shortridge, Hayden Martin, Huston Martin, Ben Martin, Sam Martin, and Dylan Cheek.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and to Taylors Valley Baptist Church building fund.
