Stephen Kovacs, age 92, of Temple, Texas, passed away on May 2, 2026.

Stephen was born on February 2, 1934, in Laca, Hungary, to Joseph and Eszter Kovacs. He came to the United States in 1947 and made his home in Keasbey and Carteret, New Jersey, where he completed his education.

Before serving in the United States Army, Stephen worked for Foster Wheeler Corporation in Clinton, NJ. After returning home from his military service, he continued his career with H.F. Butler Corporation in Union, NJ.

In 1977, Stephen relocated his family to Cameron, Texas, where he worked for Butler Weldments Corporation. He soon moved to Temple, TX in 1978 and continued working for Butler Weldments Corporation until he retired in 1997.

Stephen married Marilyn Reed in 1960. Together, they built a life centered around family, hard work, and love. Stephen will be remembered for being a man of few words, his sassy wit and for the joy he found spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed gardening, barbecues, bowling, fishing, hunting, and golf. He loved his family, God, and country.

Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Kovacs; his daughter, Denise Martinello and her husband, Paul; his son, Stephen J. Kovacs and Lynette McCoy; his grandson, Ian Martinello; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Eszter Kovacs; his brother, Joseph Kovacs; his sisters, Regina Totin, Elisabeth Mako, and Ethel Nettles; his niece, Susan Quintero; and his nephew, Steven Mako.

The family extends their gratitude to the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home and the compassionate staff at the Morada Senior Care for the exceptional love, dignity, and care shown throughout this journey. Their kindness and support will always be remembered.

Visitation will be June 5 from 10:30-11AM followed by a funeral service at 11AM at Harper-Talasek in Temple, Texas.
