Services for Santiago Ocanas, 83, of Temple will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, October 22 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Temple with Father Cesar Guzman officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mr. Santiago Ocanas died on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at a local care facility.
Santiago Ocanas was born on September 9, 1933 in San Benito, Texas to Manuel Ocanas and Paula Gonzales. Mr. Ocanas was a proud family man and a wonderful husband. He married Gumesinda Pinon and together they had a beautiful family. He loved being with his wife and they were always seen together. In his younger years he enjoyed boxing and playing as a pitcher on the Temple Tigers baseball team. Mr. Ocanas served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. While serving he was able to tour many destinations. Acquiring hobbies such as hunting, fishing and collecting various guns and knives. He was an optimistic person who never complained. He was humble and appreciated life. He was the definition of a hard worker. He was a devout catholic and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church of Temple.
He is preceded in death by parents; three brothers, Manuel Ocanas, Henry Ocanas, Braulio Ocanas; three sisters, Alma Johnson, Gloria Ocanas, and Maggie Yanez.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jimmy Ocanas and wife Rosemary, and Joe Ocanas; daughter, Martha Duarte; and a brother, Manuel Ocanas.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 4:00 pm Friday, October 21 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Recitation of Rosary will be at 2:00 p.m. with Father Steve Sauser officiating.
Services are in the care of Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.
