Obituary

Sammy John Awbrey, 79, of Temple, Texas, passed away surrounded by the love of those who knew him best. His life was one of faith, service, friendship, and quiet strength, leaving behind countless memories that will be treasured forever.

Sammy was born on February 2, 1947, in Paris, Texas, to John Franklin Awbrey and Edgar Earl Doolin. He graduated from Paris High School and continued his education at Texas Tex College. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Sammy served his country with honor before beginning a career as a shoe salesman, where he became known for his kind heart, friendly smile, and genuine care for others.

More than anything, Sammy loved life and the people around him. He was especially passionate about golf, and some of his happiest memories were made playing at Pebble Beach in California. A devoted Christian, his faith guided the way he lived each day. He carried himself with integrity and compassion, always striving to do what was right.

To those who knew him personally, Sammy was much more than a friend or coworker-he was family. He had a special love for animals and adored his beloved companions, Daisy, Oscar, Bama, Sassy, Hyper Piper, and Harley the cat. His kindness extended to everyone he met, and his gentle spirit left a lasting impression. As one loved one shared, "He wasn't only my boss, he was my friend. He became our family. I will never forget him."

Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin Awbrey and Edgar Earl Doolin, and his sister, Candie Awbrey.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, laughter, and treasured memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he will be deeply missed, his example of kindness, devotion, and unwavering friendship will never be forgotten.

Visitation will take place on Monday, July 6, at 10AM at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple, Texas, with a service to follow.
