Ruby Williams

April 22, 1926 — July 30, 2016

Ruby Hazel Williams, age 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 30, at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas.

She was born April 22, 1926, in Temple, to Carl and Sarah Matthews. On April 21, 1946, she married Warren A. "Dub" Williams. She was a lifelong member of Western Hills Church of Christ and lived her life with full commitment to her favorite Bible verse, Philippians 4:13, "I can do all this through him who gives me strength." In fact, she was fluent in Sign Language and signed for the hearing impaired during the worship service. While raising her three daughters, Ruby was a receptionist at Peacock Beauty Shop. Once her children completed high school, she went on to earn a degree in Home Economics from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, and, upon graduating, taught Special Education classes at Travis Middle School in Temple. She later worked as a receptionist for Charles Stephens, a local optometrist. Ruby was also a dedicated Chapter Commander of the American Ex-Prisoners-of-Wars Association for several years, a devoted Veterans Administration volunteer for 20 years, and a proud member of the Red Hat Ladies of Wildflower Nursing Home, where she was a resident for the past two years.

She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Dragoo and husband Carlton of Temple; Carla Crowe of Jackson, Tennessee, and Mary Mowrey and husband John of Toledo, Ohio; six grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin Dragoo and wife Kim, Brad Dragoo and wife Katie, Luke Dragoo and wife Kaitlin, Bobby Crowe and wife Amy, Kristi Crowe Phillips and husband Steve, and Michael Mowrey and husband Raymond; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Leanne Dragoo, Shelby Dragoo, Kaitlynn Dragoo, Quinn Pierce, Courtney Dragoo, Jake Dragoo, Connor Ling, Carlie Dragoo, Katie Williams, Bubba Crowe, Caleb Crowe, Summer Crowe, and Joshua Phillips.

Visitation is Wednesday, August 3, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4, at Western Hills Church of Christ in Temple, with Scott Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.
