Roy Michael Rios, age 71, died peacefully after a long courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He attended Temple Schools, St. Mary's School, Temple High School and Mary Hardin Baylor. He was born to Pascual & Olivia Rios in Temple on March 27, 1947. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mike loved music, becoming a professional musician, he joined Little Joe & the Latinaires / Little Joe y La Familia back in the early 1960's and was part of the band for 30 years. He traveled over the world with the band. He taught his son and grandsons how to play the bass guitar and how to write music. Mike had a great sense of humor and loved to be around family and friends where he was always making people laugh.
Michael married his wife, Caroline Hernandez, and would have celebrated their 55th anniversary on September 5th. They had three children, Mary Jane, Jessica and Michael Shawn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Grace Pinon, and nephews, Rudolph & Angel Pinon.
He is survived by his wife, Caroline, 3 children, Mary Jane Plazola and husband Daryle, Jessica Nealy and husband Roderick and Michael Shawn Rios; four grandsons, Alfonso Rios, Justin Biedrycki, Kaelan Nealy, Lorenzo Rios; five great-grandchildren, Miguel Rios, Mya Rios, Annaisa Rios, Ellie Leilani Rios, Enzo Liam Rios; one Sister Judy Morales Steinheimer; and many sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Scott & White Hospital, Dr. Henderson, Kindred Care Hospice and Weston Inn Senior Care and to the many family and friends who visited and offered support and prayers throughout his illness. Memorials may be made to TC College Scholarship Fund in Rusty Morales' name or St. Mary's Scholarship Fund.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 10 at 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and the recitation of a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Harper Talasek Funeral Home in Temple led by Deacon Barney Rodriguez.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 11 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 11:00 a.m. with Father Kurtis Wiedenfeld officiating.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Alfonso Rios, Justin Biedrycki, Kaelan Nealy, Lorenzo Rios, great-grandson Miguel Rios and nephew, Robert M. Morales. Burial will be at Moffat Cemetery following the service.
