Mrs. Lucero passed from this life while surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. Rosa was born in Temple on August 29, 1934 to Ernesto and Felipa Castillo.
Rosa Lucero was a resident of Temple for 70 years. She graduated from Temple High School in 1952. She worked at Scott & White Hospital as an Interpreter. She became Director of Senior Citizens at Casa Hispanica from early 80's to 2004. She loved everyone she met, and she would always say bye with a "Big Hug".
Rosa loved to sing, dance and listen to different kinds of music. She always came up with ideas of arts and crafts projects. She loved being around family, especially Family Reunions. Christmas was a special time for Rosa and her family, especially grandchildren. They loved her cooking and her homemade tortillas. Rosa learned the importance of family from her beloved step-mother, Juana Castillo, who raised her after her mother passed away early on in life. It was clear that family was Rosa's greatest treasure in life.
She moved to Pflugerville around 2006 where she lived at a senior living residence. She was well known with her hugs and great smile. For several years she organized the monthly birthdays, which she loved doing. She moved to Brodie Ranch Rehab and Nursing on February 5, 2018, where she also enjoyed helping with different social activities.
She is preceded in death by her parents; step-mother; one sister; and four brothers.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her daughters, Gloria Green (spouse Richard) of Austin, Anita Morales (spouse Jimmy) of Temple, Felipa Vernatter (spouse Billy) of Scottsville, VA; two sons, Cesario Lucero (spouse Cindy) of Pflugerville and Calletano Lucero of Austin; two brothers, Edward Castillo of Seguin, Henry Castillo of Temple; one sister, Janie Castillo of Temple; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
