Robert C. Avery, 95, of Fort Worth and formerly of Temple, died Tuesday, August 26, 2008 in a Fort Worth nursing center.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 29, 2008 at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum in Waco with Rev. Benson Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in Waco Memorial Park.

Mr. Avery was born to James Robert Avery and Georgia Martha Morris Avery in Minden, Louisiana on May 17, 1913. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He graduated from Baylor University. He married Taleda Truman Lindsey in Marlin on December 22, 1947. Prior to his retirement, he was a rancher. Mr. Avery had been a resident of Temple from 1984 until 2000, when he moved to Fort Worth. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters, Theda Spurgeon of Newark, Texas and Linda Curtis of Bynum, Texas; nine grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and a stepson, H. B. Peevey.
