Mr. Richard Dick Leroy Swisher, Jr., 84, of Temple, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in a Temple nursing center.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 25, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Temple with Rev. Wilbern Michalk officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 12:30 P.M. until service time.
Mr. Swisher was born to Richard and Martha Wismar Swisher in Roswell, New Mexico on September 8, 1923. He graduated from Roswell High School and New Mexico State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and served in the Rainbow Division under General George Patton during the Battle of the Bulge. He received a Bronze Star for his military service. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 33 years with Warren Petroleum Company, a subsidiary of Gulf Oil. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Temple.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Swisher of Temple; one son, Thomas Edward Swisher of Houston; three daughters, Janet Marie Lockwood of Temple, Carol Ann Danner of Sanger, and Linda Ruth Allen of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one sister, Joann Steinert of Hobbs, New Mexico; and seven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the memorial fund of Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2109 W. Ave. H, Temple, Texas 76504.
