Richard Hight

Celebration of Life Services for Richard "Dick" Harlan Hight, 77, of Temple, will be held 10 AM Monday, December 17, 2018 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home of Temple, 500 W. Barton Avenue. Pastor Denise Mikeska will be officiating services.

Dick passed from this life and joined his heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. Mr. Hight was born on September 6, 1941 in Sioux Falls, SD to Charles Harlan and Irene Fischer Hight.

Dick lived most of his life in the Central Texas area. He was a long-time member of Seaton Brethren Church. Mr. Hight was a member of the United States Airforce. Prior to his retirement he worked thirty-eight years for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Computer Specialist. Mr. Hight had a very strong since of duty to serve his church and his community. Whenever he saw a need around the church he just took care of it, no one needed to ask it just got done. He was always doing things such as cleaning light fixtures, pulling weeds or any other odds and ends. Dick was also a member of the Men's Brotherhood at the church. Mr. Hight spent much of his time volunteering at such places like Feed My Sheep, Family Promise, and Churches Touching Lives for Christ, just to name a few. He was instrumental in the renovation of The Well, a women's shelter associated with Feed My Sheep. Dick was a big part of The Seaton School, he helped restore and maintain the building throughout the years. He sat on the board of the Seaton Community Improvement Association and on the board of Feed My Sheep. He had a huge heart and with the spirit of a humble giving individual, he gave tirelessly. To Dick it was always service above self. Many might not have known but frequently he would go to McDonald's and get hamburgers for the homeless sleeping in a nearby park. It was said that he was the ultimate doer. His caregiving was not exclusive to the people in his community but also the animals as well. Dick was without a doubt an animal lover. In his spare time, he loved the arts, from concerts and theatre to western art, he enjoyed it all. Mr. Hight also loved to care for his land and he would always help Lou in her garden. Dick was a devoted husband. He was a great listener. He and Lou traveled all over the world together. Dick was not a complainer. Even though long flights and tedious travel days were hard on him due to rarely shared medical concerns, he went without a whisper of a complaint because he relished the times sharing the experiences of new places with his beloved Lou. Mr. Hight was a wonderful man whom will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents.

Those who are left to cherish and honor his memory are his dear wife of 34 years, Louann Elaine Skrabanek Hight; brothers, Dennis Hight and wife, Julie of Garretson, SD, John Hight and wife, Sandy of Brookfield, WI; sister, Susan Kincaid and husband, Ken of Yantis, TX; as well as his nieces and nephews with whom he had a special bond, and other close relatives.

Service
