Ray J. Burns, 81, of Temple died Dec. 16, 2013 at Scott White Hospital. Visitation will be held on Thurs., Dec. 19, at 12:00 pm at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple. Services will follow immediately at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, and burial will be at 3:00 pm at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
Ray was born on Dec. 29, 1931, to C.L. and Novie Burns. He grew up in and around Richland, TX, and graduated from high school in 1949. He then served in the Air Force from 19501954. After working for a door and window company in Dallas for several years, Ray went to work as an insurance adjuster for Motors Insurance Corp. in 1966. He retired from MIC on June 1, 1992, and he then worked as a consultant for them for a few years.
Ray married Bethel V. Harris on March 22, 1957. They lived in Dallas, Mesquite, Sherman, Temple, and Houston during their marriage.
Survivors include Rays wife, Beth, of Temple daughter, Sandy Hendrix and her husband, Andy, of Rowlett, TX son, Bruce Burns and his wife, Jacque, of Plano, TX and one granddaughter, Amber Hendrix, of Austin, TX. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, inlaws, and friends.
