A mass of Christian burial for Rachel Zapata, 61, of Temple, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Temple with the Rev. Tom Chamberlain officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mrs. Zapata died Friday, December 13, 2013 at a local hospital.
She was born May 20, 1952 in Temple to Juan Homero Rosas and Juana Estrada Rosas. She married Marcus M. Zapata on April 19, 1991. She was a phlebotomist for Scott White Hospital for 14 years a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for 26 years and a former member of the 8:00 a.m. choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents a brother, Hilario Rosas a son, Francisco Javier Vargas and a nephew, Ricardo Rosas.
She is survived by her husband, Marcus a daughter and soninlaw, Laura A. and George Mejias sons and daughtersinlaw, Benito and Lucinda Lara, Marcos and Jennifer Vargas, and Rafael Zapata and Jennifer Dare daughterinlaw Yolanda Cervantez brothers, Homero Rosas of Austin, Gilberto Rosas of Lansing, Michigan, Juan Jose Rosas and wife Cyndie Beardslee of Killeen sisters, Dolores Lola Rosas of San Diego, Texas, Rebecca Thrift and husband James Thrift of Moody, and Irma Gonzalez and husband Andrew Delgado of San Antonio five aunts and uncles 13 grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Juan Jose Rosas, Benito Lara, Marcos Vargas, Rafael Zapata, George Mejias, Nicholas Lara, and Aaron Rodgers.
Visitation will be 6 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 18 at HarperTalasek Funeral Home. Recitation of rosary will be at 7 p.m.
