Phillip Ora Etheredge, 82, was born on July 7, 1928 in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana to the late D.C. Etheredge and Lela Blanche Phillips Etheredge. On Thursday, Nov. 11, Phil , surrounded by his family and loved ones, passed away at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, TX.
Phil proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp from 19461947, and in the US Army from 19511952. He worked for Santa FeBurlington Northern Railroad as a brakemanconductor, and retired in 1996 after 42 years. He married Edna Vybiral Rutherford on March 16, 1968 in Temple, TX.
He was a member of Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Lodge, and National Association of Retired Railroad Employees. Phil was also a member of Meadow Oaks Baptist Church in Temple, TX. He served as a deacon there for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents a daughter, Debbie Rutherford four brothers, Gerald, George, Douglas and Wesley one sister, Norma Greer. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Edna Etheredge of Temple son, Tony Etheredge of Clifton daughter Donna Etheredge Holden and husband Chris of Denton, daughter Dana Etheredge McArthur and husband Jimmy of Austin, daughter Denise Rutherford Harlan and husband John of Waco brother, Charles Etheredge and wife Lillian of Hallsville sister, Betty Kennemer and husband Jim of Longview eight grandchildren, Danny Etheredge, Amy Etheredge Railsback and husband Marcus, Heather Harlan Price and husband Aland, Ryan Harlan, Aaron Harlan, Megan Harlan, Taylor Holden, Faith Holden and three great grandchildren, Mason Railsback, Brady Railsback, and Emerson Price.
Phil always enjoyed spending time with his 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He also loved farming, horseback riding, gardening, playing pool and eating lunch regularly at the Senior Citizen Center in Eddy, TX. Phil spent time everyday reading his Bible and going on long walks with his dog Lucky.
