Otis Hamby

Memorial services for Otis Hamby (The Ice Man), 94, of Temple will be 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. Visitation will immediately follow the service.

Mr. Hamby died Monday, February 29, 2016, in Temple.

Otis was born August 27, 1921, in Temple to Sally and John Hamby. He was a lifelong resident of Temple and worked for the Southland Corporation; Reddy Ice Division, for over 40 years. Otis enjoyed dancing, family reunions, and the many tours and travels that he and his wife Marguerite shared. His family and friends will remember him as a smiling, friendly and most helpful person.

Otis was preceded in death by his parents, Sally and John Hamby of Temple; and sisters Veda Daude of Bartlett, Katherine Hilliard of Temple, and Johnie V. Hilliard of Temple.

He is survived by his wife Marguerite of Temple; daughters Nancy Miller Tawater of Temple and Sharon Hamby Warren (Ronnie) of Oglesby; and sons Timmy Miller, Stanley (Tresia) Miller, both of Temple; and numerous grand-children and great grand-children.

The family would like to thank Doctor Issacs and Doctor Lane for their loving care during Otis' illness and the caring staff of Gentiva Hospice for their assistance and kindness.

In memory of Otis, donations may be made to the Association for the Blind or to a charity of your choice.
