Opal Lee Murphy, 92 of Temple died Saturday, July 3, 2010 in a local assisted living facility.
Services will be: 10 am Thursday, July 8 at HarperTalasek Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Mattson officiating. Graveside service will be 12 noon at Waco Memorial Park in Waco.
Opal Lee Murphy was born February 26, 1918 in Killeen to the late Adam and Elsie Wolf Deorsam. She lived her entire life in Bell County where she attended and graduated from the local schools in and around Killeen. She was the owner and manager of the Dairy Mark Drive In for 22 years.
Lee became a member of the Cedar Knob Baptist Church and was baptized in the Lampasas River in 1928. She became a member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Temple in 1951 where she was a member and secretary of the Deborah Sunday School Class for many years, she was also a member of the following organizations: American Business Womens Association for 30 years, Scott White Volunteers for 20 years, VFW Post 1820, Womens Bowling Association for many years. She also loved working in her flower garden and taking food to the sick and was a very avid collector of bird houses.
Mrs. Murphy is survived by: sister Erma Lee Schmidt of San Antonio, and many nieces and nephews she adored.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard L Murphy, July 25, 1978, parents, three brothers, five sisters and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be: Wednesday, July 7, 68 p.m. at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Murphy requested that donations be made to the Memorial Baptist Church 6161 South 5th Street Temple, TX 76502.
