Olga "Kitty" Watson, age 92, of Troy, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 7, 2015. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 12 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Temple, Texas with the Reverend Wilbern Michalk and the reverend Dana Wilhelmsen officiating. Interment will follow at Roberts Cemetery in Troy.
Kitty was born April 15, 1923 to Harold and Emma Siebels in Riverton, Nebraska. She graduated from Campbell High School in 1941 and attended Community College to earn her teaching certificate. She taught grades 1 through 8 in a one-room schoolhouse in Campbell. During World War II She worked at the US Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings, Nebraska. There she met and married her husband of sixty-one years, Wynell C. Watson. They married June 26, 1947 in Campbell. They relocated to a farm in Troy, Texas where they raised three children. In 1966 they moved from the farm to town when Wynell became Postmaster in Troy. Kitty then worked as a library aide at Troy and Temple High Schools until her retirement in 1991.
Kitty was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a charter member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She also was a member of the Teacher Retirement Association, the Retired Postmasters Auxiliary, the American Legion, and the Troy Senior Center.
Kitty enjoyed dancing and traveling to Post Office conventions. She also enjoyed playing "42" with friends and watching her favorite sports teams, the San Antonio Spurs and the Texas Rangers. She was also an avid bird watcher.
She will be remembered for her infectious giggle, being "sharp as a tack", unselfishness, strong faith in God, zest for life, and devotion to family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wynell in 2008, two sisters, Gertrude Brown and Irene Norris, and grandson Christopher Watson.
She is survived by her son William "Bill" Watson (Elaine) of Los Alamos, New Mexico; two daughters, Peggy Goodnight (Gary Don) of Belton and Nancy Hanson (Ron) of San Antonio; grandchildren Kitty Joy Brown (Chris) of Fort Collins, Colorado; David Watson (Lindsay) of Salt Lake City, Utah; Casey Rhea (Jason) of Temple; Marcus Goodnight (Lindsey) of Belton; and Michael Hanson (Hilary) of San Antonio; great-grandchildren, Allie Goodnight, Abby Brown, Emma Goodnight, and Immie Watson; and step granddaughters Katie Burchart (Travis) and Julie Battaglia. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The Watson family wishes to express special thanks to her wonderful neighbors for their friendship and support. Thanks also go out to her caregivers at Visiting Angels. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour.
