Nicholas Hernandez, Jr.

May 28, 1944 — October 31, 2018

Nicholas M. "Chope" Hernandez Jr., loving husband, father and grandfather, age 74, went to his final resting home with our Lord on October 31, 2018. Services will be held on Monday, November 5 at 10 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Temple with Father Vincent Romauld and Deacon Oscar Valleriano officiating.

Nick was born on May 28, 1944 in Bremond, Tx to Nicholas and Consuelo Martinez Hernandez. He was raised in Little Mexico, where he attended school in Troy I.S.D. From there he went on to join the Army, where he served two years in Vietnam. After returning from his service in the military, he went to work construction, to include roadwork and as a machine operator. Nick's experience in his work came from several companies he worked with including Bandas Construction Co of Temple, Jeff Richards of Belton, Hauco Construction of Waco, Bud Hatter Construction Co of Copperas Cove, and McKinney & James Construction Co, before venturing out on his own. In 1976, Nick became the proud owner of Hernandez Paving. Nick married his beloved wife, Anna Quinteros in December 1972. His wife, along with their two sons worked hard for their business. Nick worked hard and accomplished his goals and became successful in his business. Nick's sons eventually grew and helped in all aspects of the business, along with his brothers. Nick enjoyed a cold beer and a few card games after work. He also greatly enjoyed his family and loved his grandchildren. He loved to dance with his wife.

Nick is preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Consuelo; brothers, Benito M. Hernandez, Francisco M. Hernandez; sister, Elena Hernandez Flores.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; sons, Nicholas Hernandez III, and Steven Q. Hernandez, both of Troy; stepchildren, Anthony Donoso, Arthur Donoso, Rosalinda Olivares, Sylvia Vancleave, Francis Lopez and Jessica Salinas; brothers, Samuel M. Hernandez, and Rogelio M. Hernandez; sisters, Mary Conlon, Rosie Garcia and husband, Alvin, and Anita New McIntosh; 6 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm with the reciting of the Rosary at 7 pm on Saturday, November 3 and again on Sunday, November 4 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.
