Mrs. Myers passed away on November 30, 2015, at a local care facility.
Mrs. Myers celebrated her 103rd birthday on August 7th of this year at the Arbor House in Temple, Texas, where she has lived for the past three years. Naomi Throckmorton was born on August 7, 1912 in Mulvane, Kansas, being the youngest of seven children of Walter and Lura Throckmorton. She was raised in Mulvane and received her teaching certificate from Emporia Teachers' College in Emporia, Kansas, teaching school until leaving the area upon her marriage to James Myers on June 19, 1932. James Myers preceded her in death on April 18, 1998. She is survived by her two married daughters, Patricia Miller of Denver, Colorado and Sandy Makiej of Temple, Texas. Her devoted extended family consists of two grandsons, Kevin Butler of the Marshall Islands, and Chris Walden of Panama City, Florida, two granddaughters, Pamela Hafner of Austin, Texas and Stacy Johnson of Denver, Colorado, along with one great-granddaughter, Jessica Johnson of Denver and one great-grandson, Joshua Johnson of Paris, Texas and two great-great-granddaughters, Ashley Walden of Panama City, Florida and Naomi Blake Johnson of Denver, Colorado.
Mr. and Mrs. Myers celebrated over 65 years of marriage and lived in many parts of the country due to Mr. Myers success and experience in the rural electrification program requiring his expertise in Kansas, Colorado, Washington D.C. and Texas. Upon their move to Temple from Austin, Texas over 30 years ago they both devoted the majority of their retirement days to being active in the First United Methodist Church, continuing their life long active membership wherever they resided. Mrs. Myers was known for her love of playing the piano and did this on a weekly basis for many years for the residents of assisted living facilities in the area through her church's program. She was devoted to this program and her dedication was admired by all. She was also a member of the PEO philanthropic organization for over 60 years, the Temple Garden Club, and was a Stephen Minister and a lifelong member of the Dawson Sunday School Class at First United Methodist. Starting with her Christian upbringing and continuing throughout her life, Mrs. Myers' commitment to her church with its Christian teachings and principles exemplified in her daily life had a positive influence on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Mrs. Myers name be made to First United Methodist Church, 102 North 2nd Street, Temple Texas 76501.
