Mrs. Naomi Virginia Sis Bowen, 103, of Temple, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 in a Temple nursing center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with Rev. Roy Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.
Mrs. Bowen was born to James and Ella Lee Wood Pass in Marshall City, Oklahoma on November 19, 1905. She was a resident of Temple since 1950. She married Ted Bowen in Hallsburg, Texas on October 12, 1924. She attended nursing school in Dallas, and began her nursing career at King's Daughters Hospital in Temple. Mrs. Bowen also worked at Scott White Memorial Hospital and Santa Fe Hospital in Temple. She then served as a volunteer at the V.A. Hospital in Temple. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Vashti Chapter 32 for over 50 years, and was also a long time member of V.F.W. Post 1820 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Temple.
Survivors include one son, Vernon Lloyd Bowen of Pasadena, Texas; seven grandchildren, Diane Waters, Vernon Bowen, Jr., Debbie Hall, Sue Ballard, Greg Bowen, Sammie Duane Bowen and Patricia Bowen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123-1718.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until service time.
