Funeral services for Merrill V. Snowden, Sr., 90, of Temple will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Heights Baptist Church in Temple with Bro. Billy Koinm officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple. Visitation will start at 1:00pm.
He passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 at his home.
He was born in Meridian, MS on June 23, 1927 to Thomas and Agnes (Clearman) Snowden. He graduated from Meridian High School in 1945. He married Annette Hayes on October 9, 1948. He served in the US Army post WWII in France. He reached the rank of sergeant before his honorable discharge. He worked for his father's grocery business and as a traveling salesman in Mississippi and Texas. He was an auctioneer and owned and operated Snowden Auction Service in the Rio Grande Valley for 41 years. After retirement he was a bus driver and dispatcher for the Temple ISD for 18 years. He was a member of Heights Baptist church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a counselor at Churches Touching Lives for Christ for 3 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Agnes Snowden; a daughter, Susan Dusek; 2 sisters, Marbeth Lee and Myra Hawkins; and a brother, Millard Snowden.
Survivors include his wife, Annette Snowden; a daughter, Nancy Ellis and husband Bubba; a son, Chip Snowden and wife Phyllis; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
