Maytle Lee Rice, 95 of Riesel, Texas, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 28, 2009 at her home. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00pm Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Harper Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. Funeral services will be 10:00am Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Howard Whiddon of the First United Methodist Church of Riesel officiating. Burial will follow in the Little Flock Cemetery in Temple.
Maytle was born on August 30, 1913 in Alabama and was married to Chester Rice in 1923. For many years, she was employed as a cafeteria worker for Temple ISD. She had lived in Forney, Texas for eight years before moving to Riesel.
Maytle was a creative writer, storyteller, and avid gardener. She devoted her life to her treasured children. She left her children a written history of her life including her courtship to their Father. She will be greatly missed by her large family, friends, and all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, one brother, and three grandchildren.
Survivors include: sons and spouses; Chester Lee and Elly Rice of Katy, Don and Shirley Rice of McGregor, Victor and Augusta Rice of Temple, daughters and spouses; Glinda and Roy Pipkin of Forney, and Joyce and Dewain Denke of Riesel, 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Seth Pipkin of Forney, Ethan Rice and Trenton Rice of McGregor, Lewis McDonald of Alabama, Avis Breland of Mississippi, and Karen Seward of McGregor. Honorary Pallbearer is Danny Carver of Temple, Texas.
