Matilda Yanez Avila, age 58 of Temple, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Baylor Scott & White hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Temple. Burial will be in Temple Garden of Memories.
Matilda was born on May 20, 1963 to Eppie and Susie (Guerrero) Yanez in Temple, Texas, where she lived all her life. She graduated from Temple High School and was a devout Catholic. Over the years, she worked at Custom Printing, Luby’s Cafeteria, Picadilly’s Cafeteria, 2 local day-care centers, and was a school volunteer at Hector Garcia Elementary. Matilda loved dancing and playing Bingo, was a loving person and would be friends with anyone. If someone ever needed anything, they could always count on her to help.
She is preceded in death by her son, Paul Ray Yanez, Sr.
Matilda is survived by her parents, Eppie and Susie Yanez; 2 sisters, Mary Ann (Yanez) Rodriguez and Dora Gandara; brother, Mike Rodriguez; 3 grandchildren, Paul Ray Jr., Antonio, and Angelica; as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to friends and family for their support and prayers during this time. They extend their heart-felt thanks to Baylor Scott & White for all the care they have given Matilda.
A time of visitation will be held from 5-7 pm with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 pm Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.
