Mary G. Mares, a beloved member of the Temple community, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at the age of 88. She was born on November 12, 1935, in Coupeland, Texas to the late Jose and Tomasa Garcia. Mary's journey through life left an enduring impact on all those who were blessed to know and love her.
Mary's warm smile and kind heart touched the lives of many. She was known for her unwavering compassion and selflessness towards others. Mary's faith also played a vital role in her life. A devoted Catholic, she found solace and strength in her relationship with God. Mary cherished spending time with loved ones above all else. Mary leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, compassion, and generosity. She will be deeply missed by her numerous friends, relatives, and all those whose hearts she touched. Though Mary's physical presence may be gone, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Tomasa Garcia; her loving husband, Victor Mares, Sr.; brother, Albert Garcia; son, Victor Mares, Jr.; infant son, Victor Mares; daughter, Silvana Mares; and granddaughter, Victoria Aviles.
Those left to carry on her memory and legacy are her sons, Michael Mares, Robert Mares, and Eloy Mares; daughters, Mary Linda Cobos, Olga Moreno, Yolanda Mares, Rebecca Miller, and Lilly Mares; 26 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren.
To honor Mary's memory and celebrate her remarkable life, visitation will be held at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 5-7 pm with a Holy Rosary recited at 7 pm. The funeral Mass will be held at St Luke's Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 2 pm. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
