Mary Brooks

Funeral services for Mary Ann Brooks, 75, of Temple will be held at 10am on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Harper-Talasek Chapel in Temple with Pastor Robert Beamon officiating. Burial will follow to North Belton Cemetery.

She passed away on November 6, 2016 at a local hospital.

Mary Ann was born on December 4, 1940 in Clifton, Texas to Otis C. and Margaret (Aulie) Mickelson. She was raised in Clifton and graduated from Clifton High School where she played basketball, played the flute in the band and was a baton twirler. Mary Ann married Grant W. Brooks in 1963 and moved to Temple that same year. Her first child, a son, Alan, was born on New Year's Eve of 1963 and her daughter, Susanne, was born in 1966. Mary Ann loved her family and was very active in her children's activities as a member of the PTA and Cub Scouts leader.

Mary Ann loved cooking, her coleslaw was the best, and she also enjoyed making clothes for her family. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, she loved to decorate and set up her Snow Village. In her spare time she enjoyed going to the beach and cheering for her favorite football teams, the Temple Wildcats and the Dallas Cowboys. She also loved bingo and going to the casinos.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Margaret Mickelson; and her husband of 32 years, Grant W. Brooks.

Survivors include her son, Alan G. Brooks and wife Kelly; daughter, Susanne Brooks; brother, Charles Mickelson and wife Annie; 2 granddaughters, Rian Grimes and Haley Baldock .

Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the funeral home.
