Marilyn Faith Herring, age 87 of Temple, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2020 at a local care facility. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Friday, June 12, 2020 in the Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Temple. Burial will follow at Greathouse Cemetery in Temple.
Marilyn was born on November 10, 1932 to John and Alpha Franklin Ponton in Temple, Texas. She married Oral Allen Worley, who preceded her in death in 1972, and Frank Herring, who also preceded her in death in 2001. She was a 1951 graduate of Temple High School and completed instruction at Cameron Secretarial School. She then used these skills to work as an administrative assistant at the Temple VA Chaplains office. She also worked for American Airlines and later retired from Tulsa District Corp of Engineers. She was a member of First Christian Church.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her first husband, Oral Allen Worley; second husband, Frank Herring; sister, Opal Booth; step-daughter, Connie Allen; grandson, Travis Allen; and an infant brother that passed away shortly after birth.
She is survived by her daughter, Marcia “Marcy” Kelley; step-son, John Herring; grandchildren, Brian Kelley, Mike Allen, Michelle Allen-Hughes, John Matthew Herring, and Jeremiah Herring; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made in Marilyn’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association and the Wounded Warrior Project.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the members of First Christian Church and Grace Presbyterian Church, the tireless efforts of the staff at the Wellington Care Center, and to Interim Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. A special thank you to Jill Ingram and Olivia Katsoulias for their dedicated care and friendship.
