Services for Maria Garza Vasquez, 86, of Temple, will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 5, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with Pastor Manuel Guerrero officiating.
Mrs. Vasquez passed away Tuesday, October 31, in Temple.
Maria Garza Vasquez was born September 9, 1931 in Tamaulipas, Mexico to Bartolome De La Garza and Rosa Marina Barrientos. She lived in Kingsville prior to moving
to Temple 52 years ago where she raised her beautiful family.
As a younger woman, she loved to go dancing and listen to good music. Maria had a great sense of humor that she passed on to her entire family. Even in her final days
here with us she still was telling jokes and making those around her laugh. Mrs. Vasquez loved to sew and most of all loved to do so for her grandchildren. She loved to
care for her roses and watch them grow. The early morning was her favorite time of the day where she drank her coffee and enjoyed the peace and stillness of the
beginning of the day.
Maria above all loved to be surrounded by her big family. A noisy house was a happy house. Mrs. Vasquez was a wonderful mother who loved her children
unconditionally. She had a huge heart that cared for all of her family. She gave tough love when it was necessary and was a shoulder to lean on when it was needed.
She was a strong Christian woman that always put her faithful trust in God. She was a long-time member of La Torre Fuerte Church. She will be dearly missed by all
those who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Vasquez was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Albert G. Vasquez; a grandchild, Monica Michelle Olivares; a brother, Bartolome De La Garza; and a
sister, Guadalupe Rodriguez.
She is survived by two sons, David G. Vasquez and wife Thelma, and Abelardo G. Vasquez; three daughters, Diana Olivares and husband Alfonso, Graciela V. Cruz,
and Delma G. Vasquez; fourteen grandchildren, David Vasquez, Jr., Mark Anthony Vasquez, Leann Vasquez, Melissa Garza, Albert Vasquez, Jr., Delia Vasquez, Erica Olivares,
Alicia Cruz, Leticia Cruz, Migdalia Cruz, Maria Adriana Cruz, Andrea Freeman, Gabriella Marquez, and Jeremy Vasquez; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two
great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 4, at the funeral home.
Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple is in charge of arrangements.
