Margaret Turner

Services for Margaret Turner, 88 of Temple, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 30 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple with Chaplain Bruce Mercer officiating.

Mrs. Margaret L. Turner died on Sunday, November 26.

Margaret Lucile Dean was born in July of 1929 to Dr. J.J Dean and Jessie Trice Dean in Waco, Texas. She was the youngest of fourteen children. Margaret graduated from Waco High School, and attended The University of Chattanooga, where she became a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She earned a Bachelor's degree from Mary-Harden Baylor, and served as a first grade teacher in Temple. She continued to tutor Temple students after her retirement, and maintained her Texas teaching certification until her death. She was a member of the Temple-Bell Retired Teachers Association.

Margaret served as Executive Director and Field Director at the Waco Council of Camp Fire Girls. She married Cecil Turner in Waco on April 1961, and they became residents of Temple. Margaret served as a docent at the Cultural Activities Center, and in 2009, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Contemporaries, the fundraising and program group of the CAC. She was also a member of the CAC Review Club. She attended First Baptist Church in Temple. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, and was a collector and seller of antiques.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings.

She is survived by her son, Curtis Turner; her daughter, Patricia James; two sisters, and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be held before the service from noon -2:00 pm on Thursday, November 30 at the funeral home.
