Services for SMG (Ret) Luis A. Montero, 68, will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Temple with Father Ranjan Cletus officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Mr. Montero died Saturday, March 26, 2016 at his home in Temple, Texas.

Luis Montero was born February 8, 1948, in Ponce, Puerto Rico to Longino and Mercedes Montero. He was one of five siblings. SGM Montero served in the U.S. Army for 26 ½ years, retiring in 1995. He did tours of duty in Korea, Germany, Kentucky, and Texas, where he lived until his death. He was a combat veteran of the Gulf War and Desert Storm and was a lifetime and active member of Temple VFW Post 1820. Mr. Montero was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Temple.

He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Jesusa (Susie) Montero; his four children, Ramon Segovia, Virginia Willoughby, Devin Montero, and Melinda Montero; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Temple. Recitation of Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m.
