Mr. Luis F. Martinez, age 71, died Thursday, March 3, 2001 at his home in Temple surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 6, 1939 to Vicente Rodriguez and Raquela Flores Martinez in Oenaville.
Mr. Martinez was a sign painter for over 50 years which he enjoyed, but his passion was in music. He played the saxophone for the group, The Latinears, from Temple. He became the lead singer for the group his father, Vicente Martinez, originated in 1950, Los Centrales, in Pendleton, TX.
His desire and love of music continued as he performed with Flaco Jimenez of San Antonio for over 12 years. He continued his passion as a music writer and began his own group with his brother, Los Tremendes Cuates, followed by Los Cuatro Originales. As a recording artist he produced two CDs with his group, Grupo Los Centrales, puro Temple Town.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Theo F. Martinez and Rufus M. Kookie F. Martinez.
He is survived by his wife, Dominga Chavez Martinez of Temple daughter, Yolanda Martinez of Houston 4 sons, Isidro Martinez, Reynaldo Martinez, Louis Martinez, Jr. and Ambrocio Martinez, all of Temple brothers, Paul F. Martinez, Willie F. Martinez and Isidro F. Martinez of San Antonio, Vicente F. Martinez and Felipe F. Martinez of Temple sisters, Anita M. Mungia of Temple, Maria M. Mora of San Antonio and Josephine M. Flores of Anglewood, California 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 57 p.m. with Rosary recitation at 7p.m., Sunday, March 6, 2011 at HarperTalasek Funeral home in Temple.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Temple. Reverend Tom Chamberlain will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
