Lucio Muoz, Jr. age 65 lost his 7 year battle with cancer in his home, surrounded by his loving family, on June 22nd, 2010 in Rogers, Texas. He was born July 25th 1944 to Lucio Santiaga Muoz in Van Court, Texas. He graduated from Rockdale High School in 1962. Afterwards, he started his career with Alcoa Aluminum Company as a millwright. In July of 1965 he began a 2 year tour of duty in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He returned home decorated with several medals. Once home, he continued to work for Alcoa until his retirement in 1998, finalizing his 34 year career as a Safety Behavioral Technician. In the early 1970s he attended Temple College and Texas AM University, furthering his education and his love of learning. After his retirement from Alcoa, he started his own company MMG Enterprises, working as an independent contractor for Wilsonart International, as well as buying and renovating houses in the Central Texas area for rental properties.
During his life he was a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local 4895, and a lifetime charter member of the American GI Forum.
On October 11, 1969 he married the love of his life, Lupe Martinez of Rogers at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Temple, Texas. Together they made their home in Rogers, where they raised their four children. During these years, Lucio served as a coach for his childrens various sports teams, a commissioner of umpires for Rogers little league, and cofounded the Central Texas Youth Football League with Joe Albert Martinez. He and Lupe worked together in ministry for our Lord teaching CCE, and Lucio served on the parish finance council. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, playing volleyball, swimming and playing pool with family, teaching young people, and helping those in need.
Lucio is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lupe Muoz, and their four children Lucio F. Fred Muoz and wife Marcie of Missouri City, TX, Lorenzo Muoz of Temple, Leo Muoz of Houston, TX, and Lia Muoz Mendez and husband Francisco Mendez, Jr of Temple and his 6 grandchildren Aidan Muoz, Truitt Muoz, Elise Muoz, Meredith Muoz, Mia Mendez, Corinne Muoz, and a new grandson expected to arrive in August to his daughter Lia Muoz Mendez soninlaw Francisco. He also survived by 2 sisters, 1 brother, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceeded in death by his parents and a sister.
The visitation was held Thursday evening from 6:00 8:00pm with a rosary recited at 7:00pm at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Temple. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 25th at 10:00am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Temple
