Colonel Jack Green passed away on May 7, 2025, at his home in Temple, TX. He was 87 years old. Col. Green was born in Columbus GA, the youngest of 4 children born to Bill and Grace Greene. When he was born, the hospital left of the last “e” of his family surname, which explains the difference in spelling. He was a 3-sport star athlete at his high school, receiving letters of interest from various universities. Upon the death of his father, during his sophomore year, Jack had to leave school to assist in the support of his mother. He enlisted in the US Air Force, with his mother signing permission papers as he was underage. Col. Green served 36.5 years with the Air Force, retiring in 1991. He served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam: as an enlisted NCO medical advisor to the Vietnamese in 1966-67 and in 1973 as an officer in counterintelligence as a OSI Special Agent. During his tenure in the military, he continued his academic career, graduating from the University of Nebraska in 1969, with a BS degree, moving on to the University of Oklahoma, obtaining his Masters in International Security Affairs. Col. Green was assigned to many varied duty posts in his career across the United States, along with duty in North Africa, Vietnam, Thailand and Turkey. His last station was right here in Texas, at the then Carswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth as the OSI Detachment Commander.

After his retirement from the Air Force, Jack was employed with multiple Texas Law Enforcement Agencies, including 9 years as Senior Parole Office with Milam County.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, sister and 2 brothers. He was loved and will be greatly missed by his wife of 44 years, Phyllis (Galban) of Temple, daughter Cindy Ruck (Tony) of Kennedale, TX, son Jack [aka: Jay] Green Jr. of Los Lunas, NM, son Monroe [aka: Leonard] Jimenez (Debbie), son Michael Jimenez (Stephanie). Ten grandchildren: Danielle (Ruck)Morgan, Kelsey (Ruck) Matthews, Jessica (Green) Nelson, Alyssa (Jimenez) McCann, Perri (Jimenez) Perez, Preston Jimenez, Bryce Jimenez, Sarah (Jimenez) Knight, Michaela Jimenez and Amanda Jimenez. He was blessed to have 17 great grandchildren.

Viewing and rosary will be Thursday May 15, 2025, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home, Temple, beginning at 5:00pm with rosary beginning at 7:00pm. Funeral mass will be held Friday May 16, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Temple TX, with interment to follow at Bellwood Memorial Park Cemetery, Temple. Reception to follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Family Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Fund at Fort Cavazos TX.
