Lonnie "Pops" Velasquez, Jr.

Lonnie Duran Velasquez, Jr., age 58 of Temple, passed from this life Monday, January 23, 2023, at home. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Friday, January 27, 2023, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Lonnie was born on March 3, 1964, to Lauranio Duran and Macaria Velasquez in Rosebud, Texas. He attended Temple High School and married Mary Ann Sanchez. Lonnie worked for E.R. Carpenter, Mobile, and IHOP. He also worked for the band “Los Terribles Del Norte” and loved going fishing. Lonnie loved his family and loved them hard. He was so proud of all his boys and girls, Steven, Eddie, Little Jose, Sergio, Big Jose, Nando, Tabitha, and Jenny. And according to his family, Lonnie was the BEST Daddy in the world. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his father, Lauranio Velasquez; mother, Macaria Velasquez; father-in-law, Raymond Sanchez; brother, Basillio Velasquez; sister, Delfina V. Garcia; and son, Lonnie Duran Velasquez III.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Velasquez; sons, Fernando A. Sanchez, Jose R. Velasquez, Eddie D. Velasquez, Steven D. Velasquez, Sergio Ramirez, and Jose Ramirez; daughters, Jennifer R. Gosett, and Tabitha Vargas; brothers, John Velasquez, and Raul “Roy” Velasquez; sisters, Margaret Addy, Yolanda Garcia, and Debra Manjaraz; mother-in-law, Martina Jimenez; brothers-in-law, David Sanchez, Tony Sanchez, Raymond Sanchez, Lou Garcia, and Gary Ramos; sisters-in-law, Margaret Rayas, and Norma Ramos; 10 grandsons; and 14 granddaughters.

A time of visitation will be held from 5-7 pm with a rosary recited at 6 pm Thursday, January 26, 2023, at the funeral home.
