Lee Roy Calhoun, 80, of Temple, died Sunday, June 28, 2009 in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Temple with Dr. Martin Knox officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.
Mr. Calhoun was born to Augustus Lee and Nancy Page Young Calhoun in Temple on August 21, 1928. He was a lifelong resident of Temple. He married Mary Virginia Jones in Ft. Smith, Arkansas on November 23, 1952. Prior to his retirement in 1989, he owned and operated Calhoun's Garage for 31 years, succeeding his father, who owned the business before him. Mr. Calhoun was a member of First Baptist Church in Temple, where he was a member of the Fisher Sunday school class. He formerly served on the Board of Trustees of the Temple Independent School District. He was the founder and President of the Temple Independent Garagemen, and served as Regional Director of the Independent Garagemen. He was a member of the Legion of Honor of the Temple Kiwanis Club for 55 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Calhoun of Temple; one son, James Fulton Jim Calhoun of Temple; two daughters, Nancy Virginia Stalmach of Arlington and Leesa J. Green of Flower Mound; one sister, Leta Mae Teakell of Temple; and nine grand-children.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 P.M. at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Loyalty Fund of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, the Greater Things Fund of First Baptist Church in Temple, or the charity of choice.
