Lawrence Paul Wilson

September 7, 1933 — November 27, 2023

Belton

It is with heavy hearts that Lawrence's family, Larry “Papa” Wilson, announces his passing. He was a retired Colonel of the US Army Reserves and was born September 7, 1933, in Colorado Springs, CO, to Paul Dennis Wilson and Helen Feather. After serving his country, he worked as an RN at VA hospitals in various cities across the United States, including Hastings & Lincoln, NE; Los Angeles, CA; Hot Springs, SD; Des Moines, IA; and finally, Temple, TX, where he retired as the Supervisor of the Nursing home care Unit in 1988. He met and married an incredibly wonderful woman, Mary Alford, on December 31, 1988, who steadfastly was by his side at the time of our loss.

Larry always exhibited his love for his country as a true patriot, and his proudest moment was being the Chief Nurse. He always felt immense pleasure in walking into a room and telling the patients that he was there to help them. But more than his service to the country and his patients, he was a wonderful father. He was always there for his family, and after retiring to Belton, TX, he devoted his time to investing in their lives. Larry enjoyed spending time on the farm, raising farm animals, and helping care for the pecan orchard. He had a passion for golf, and the farm provided some driving range opportunities when not at the course. He had a soft spot for dogs and cats and made sure that no pet or stray animal went without care.

His love for his family, country, and the farm was nothing short of remarkable. He will be missed dearly by everyone who knew him. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now in a better place.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Wilson; sons,  Dennis Wilson, and Jeff Wilson; and daughter, Leesa Wilson; many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Scot Wilson.
