Mr. Kie Wachel, 86, of Bremond, died Friday, October 23, 2009 in a Bremond nursing center.
Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 26, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bremond with Father Celso Yu officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M. Sunday at Bremond Funeral Home in Bremond.
Mr. Wachel was born to Peter and Victoria Bielamowicz Wachel in Bremond on August 2, 1923. He was a lifelong resident of Bremond. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of World War II, and was awarded the EAME Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Ribbon Germany, Victory Ribbon with 1 Service Stripe, and 5 Overseas Service Bars. He married Maria Wos in France on October 6, 1945. Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated Wachel's Service Station in Bremond for 65 years. Mr. Wachel was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bremond, and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed ranching, fishing, and visiting with family and friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Bernadine Hopcus and husband, Leon of Hearne; one sister, Alene Stilley of Temple; three brothers, Marion Wachel of Jacinto City, Reese Wachel of Humble and Roland Butch Wachel of Temple; three grandchildren, Darren Hopcus and wife, Lisa of Bremond, Jill Huggins and husband, Frank of Grandview and Robin Akens of Temple; and four great grandchildren, Kaylan Hopcus, Nolan Hopcus, Braden Huggins and Peyton Huggins. He was preceded in death by his wife on November 27, 2007.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 P.M. at Bremond Funeral Home.
