Kay Ivey Smith, of Salado, TX, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 17, 2025. She lived a life rooted in faith, service, and devotion to those she held dear.
A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Kay loved Jesus and trusted Him in all things, faithfully studying His Word. Her faith guided the way she lived, loved, and served others, and it was evident to everyone who knew her.
She loved her family fiercely. Being a mother and a grandmother (“Granny”) was one of her greatest joys, and she poured herself into caring for and supporting those she loved. Her strength, kindness, and unconditional love created a foundation that will continue for generations.
Kay also had a special calling to care for others, especially the veterans she served during her 37 years at the V.A. Hospital. She tirelessly worked as Head Nurse of Oncology, Emergency Room Nurse, and eventually as Evening Supervisor until her retirement. She treated every one of her veterans with dignity, compassion, and respect, always advocating for their best interests. Helping others wasn’t just something she did—it was who she was.
Always ready to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or give comfort, Granny Kay leaves behind a legacy of faith, compassion, and selfless love. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds peace knowing she is now resting in the presence of her Savior.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Edward Smith, and her granddaughter, Amy Lee McAdoo Smith.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Smith and his wife, Penny; her daughter, Tracy Ruzicka and her husband, Dennis; her grandson, Cody McAdoo and Paige; and her granddaughter, Jolynn Smith, along with many others whose lives were touched by her kindness and generosity.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her name to Grace Church Salado. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
